Ephemeral Thoughts

Abhijeet felt the heat now. It had crept in slowly, but it was definitely there. The insulating shield of his carrier was already beeping. It only spoke to the cruelty of the Imperial Court that they would create such an alert. Gone were the days of the sudden. Now, you would feel the terror.

Not that there was no beauty in this sentence. He still remembered marvelling at C. Mahesh’s desire to see the Venusian Clouds. Murder an entire lunar family to just see that beauty? Now he understood. And despite being blinded by the solar flare, the ruins of MESSENGER still sent shivers. It only spoke to the cruelty of the Imperial Court to show him these sights at this moment.

He realized that his flesh was already melting. The slingshot had picked up unexpected additional velocity. However, he could not move yet. His alloyed shackles still held.

All he had done was stolen a load of Martian bread. That was all and he should face this fate. He closed his eyes and prayed, yet the brightness penetrated his eyelids. As if the soul actually existed, he soon heard the others who had been sentenced before. Was that how C. Mahesh sounded? It only spoke to the cruelty of the Imperial Court that they would make him hear such voices as the solar flare enveloped his capsule.
